Mountaintop Retreat

Rainforest Sampler

Coffee & Campesino Culture Experience

4 nights, 5 days

  • 4 guided walks – while hiking the Yellow and Red trails, visit a neighboring farmer and learn about their way of life (tour must be arranged in advance)

  • Learn all about our organic coffee – From seed to cup, a tour and presentation led by our expert coffee manager

  • “Cupping” presentation can be arranged for an additional $25 fee

  • Camp fire with folk musicians

  • Learn to roast coffee and make tortillas in our traditional Nicaraguan kitchen

  • Half day historic tour of the town of San Ramon. Visit Tourism Center where many local crafts are sold. Watch the process of recycling paper to make beautiful handmade notebooks and cards by the Women’s Recycling Coop, and Jewelry making with a Women’s Collective of El Plomo.

Tropical & Migratory Bird Exploration (4 nights/5days)

* Best migratory sitings between December and April

  • 4 guided birding walks with our naturalist guides to look for up to 250 species in different areas of FEV’s wet tropical forest.  FEV has hosted several bird banding operations and is the location of two official first sightings for Nicaragua

  • Learn about how our shade grown, organic coffee cultivation enhances bird habitat – includes a presentation on coffee cultivation at our nursery and 3 year old demonstration area

  • Guided visit to our Butterfly farm with presentation

Birding

The mix of habitats within walking distance and the abundance of species makes Finca Esperanza Verde (FEV) a destination for world-class birding. FEV has a country record for first time sighting of golden-browed chlorophonia. Come to the Finca and credit our nature reserve with more official sightings as we add to our list of over 250 species already found to date! The expert knowledge of our guides and their enthusiasm for FEV's unique birds is what will undoubtedly make this a most memorable experience!  Duration: 1.5 - 2 hours

 

Cost: $15/per person

Guided Trail Hike

Privately guided flora and fauna hike with our expert plant and wildlife guide. Explore our 5 well-groomed trails where visitors can see sloths, howler monkeys, birds, orchids, medicinal plants, and much more. Binoculars and rubber boots are available on loan. Duration: 1- 3 hours (depending on trail and pace of the hike). For those looking to focus more on a bird watching experience, we recommend you reserve our Birding Activity

Coffee Farm Tour

A private tour of our award-winning, shade-grown and sustainable coffee farm. Learn about our unique farming methods from our expert coffee manager who will lead you through the fascinating journey of the coffee bean from seed to cup. From mid-December through mid-February, visitors may be able to participate in the coffee harvest and wet mill activities. If you would like to pair up with a picker, we recommend that you inquire at least 48 hours prior to your visit.

Tours are Mon-Sat 8am - 2pm -  duration: 1 1/2 - 2 hours

 

Cost: $10/ per person; $15/ per person with Translator

Bonfire with Local Musicians

Always a favorite with our guests! This unforgettable experience offers a night of music around a bonfire. Dance under the stars to the rhythm of Nicaraguan folklore performed by a family of very talented local campesinos. The bonfire would not be complete without the roasted marshmallows on a stick!  Duration: 1 hour (Reserve 48 hours in advance)

Tortilla Making

Join our onsite cooking team for a fun, interactive cooking lesson in our rustic Nica kitchen! Learn how to make tortillas the traditional way.  You'll be able to join in the process and sample the end product. A fun activity for the whole family! Duration: 45 mins - 1 hour

A Day in the Life of a Campesino

FEV’s new immersive cultural activity invites visitors to experience rural Nicaraguan life in the mountains as it really is. Accompanied by a FEV guide, you will visit the home of a local family from La Chispa by walking the dirt path where the children travel to school and families travel to town.  You can make tortillas with la Doña, help a farmer in the field or just sit and have a chat with the family about life!  Total Duration: 3 - 4 hours. Please reserve at least 72 hours in advance. Trails are difficult to navigate so must be in good shape for this activity. (Available only from Jan - Apr) Spanish speaking guide only.

 

Cost: $25/per person - 50% of the proceeds from these tours go directly to the families you visit. 

Guided Tour of the Organic Vegetable & Herb Garden

Enjoy a tour of our half acre veggie garden, citrus orchard and worm farm with our head gardener. Learn about our organic practices and how it benefits our eco-system from seed to harvest. You will be shown the process of pest and weed control, composting and soil enrichment methods - all the care that goes into the healthy food we bring to the table. Monday - Saturday from 8am - 2pm. Duration: 1 hour.

As a full-service ecolodge located on 247 acres of cloud-forested mountains there is much to do and explore! The activities listed below are offered for day visitors as well as staying guests. If you are visiting for the day, the entrance fee is $6 for foreigners and C$50 for Nationals. Whether you are here with your family, your partner, a group or by yourself, Finca Esperanza Verde has something for everyone.
